Description

Here is an intriguing handmade redware plate or charger with slip decoration featuring IPSWICH and the founding date of 1634, with an historic house depicted in the center and flanked by angels, the style used on early tombstones from the area.  Back of the pottery says IPSWICH and RJC, the potter.  The plate is heavy and hand-built in the style of the 17th century, not wheel-thrown. It measures 10" diameter and is in excellent condition.  Fine crazing throughout glaze.
