Folk Art Redware Ovoid Jug Primitive Portsmouth NH Wheeler 1985 New Hampshire

A great early style folk art redware ovoid jug from Portsmouth New Hampshire! This beautiful 8 inch ovoid redware jug looks New England, circa 1840 from 6 inches away. However, the bottom two inches are unglazed and the base is incized "WHEELER 1985 PORTSMOUTH N.H." A very well executed reproduction of a much earlier piece. This jug exhibits incized rings below the lip, a nice crimped handle, and a great mottled dark brown glaze. Perhaps made as a museum piece for Strawberry Banke, I don't believe these were made in large quantities as I haven't encountered others in the last few years.
